I simply took a profile photo of myself, taped it to the window during a sunny day, and held a piece of drawing paper over the printed photo and traced my image.
Then, I just filled it in with little pieces of me. Art colleges can teach you more about self-portrait and other art and design concepts.
UPDATE: After an overwhelmingly good response from the internets (I call two comments on one post an overwhelmingly good response) I've decide to post these portraits to my etsy store for custom order. Click away if interested.

This is insanely awesome! You should make some for people...commissions maybe...I would get one!
ReplyDeleteWow! Thanks! I hadn't thought of that, but now that you say it, I'll post it in my etsy shop. :)

DeleteThis is so great!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAmazing work, Rose, just love this!
ReplyDeletemom
Thanks!
DeleteI love this idea, I'll have to try it!
ReplyDeleteGo for it! I've done one similar to this before years ago, but used more exact imagery then. This time I tried to get a little less exact. For example, I'm from MN, so instead of drawing a small shape of my state I drew cattails and corn on the cob, things that for me represent my home state. Thanks for tuning in, Celeste!
DeleteAmazing ... love this.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteNot only do I love this, but it made my day to see that you included a Yalom book. Love his work! :)
ReplyDeleteBusted! I'm a Yalom lover. The book The Gift of Therapy made me get into therapy. Glad to make your day better! :) thanks!
DeleteFantastic!!You have inspired me to do some artowrk.
ReplyDeleteDawn
That's great! I'm glad! :)
ReplyDeletei teach middle school in Irving, Tx and this will be a great end-of-the-year, self-portrait project for my 8th grade art kids...i love to see what's on their minds...well, most of the time...
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea, Donna! Yes, I imagine there are certain areas of their minds no person should tread. :)
DeleteP.S. I feel like a rock star has visited my blog! I think art teachers are THE BEST. It was the only class in middle school I could stand. Ha!
Your silhouette is absolutely amazing!!! I was looking for some self portrait ideas for my "Final" in Art Appreciation class, and came across your self portrait, what talent you have!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nicole!
