Detailed Self-Portrait DIY

Every couple of years, in some medium, I do a self-portrait. It's interesting to go back through them and reflect. Here's how I did mine this year. It's an Indian ink silouette filled with everything that makes me...well...me. Here's how you can do it too.

I simply took a profile photo of myself, taped it to the window during a sunny day, and held a piece of drawing paper over the printed photo and traced my image.

Then, I just filled it in with little pieces of me. Art colleges can teach you more about self-portrait and other art and design concepts.

UPDATE: After an overwhelmingly good response from the internets (I call two comments on one post an overwhelmingly good response) I've decide to post these portraits to my etsy store for custom order. Click away if interested.

    1. Go for it! I've done one similar to this before years ago, but used more exact imagery then. This time I tried to get a little less exact. For example, I'm from MN, so instead of drawing a small shape of my state I drew cattails and corn on the cob, things that for me represent my home state. Thanks for tuning in, Celeste!

    1. Fantastic idea, Donna! Yes, I imagine there are certain areas of their minds no person should tread. :)

P.S. I feel like a rock star has visited my blog! I think art teachers are THE BEST. It was the only class in middle school I could stand. Ha!
