DIY Animal Print Sweater

Feel like getting your inner animal on? Here's how I turned a boring grey sweater into a head turn-worthy garment.

I took an old H&M sweater, shaved the lint off of it to create a smooth surface (use this tutorial), and then used fabric paint in white and black to create a snow leopard-like print.

You can do any print you like, but this is how I made mine. It helps to print out an example of the pattern so you have something to work from.

Make sure the type of fabric paint you use is a soft feeling formula. You can always test a bit on the inside before committing.

No one will ever know that you did this yourself. Unless you tell them, of course. That's the great thing about animal print, it's supposed to be imperfect!

What I wore with my new sweater:
Sweater – H&M
T-Shirt – Target (US)
Jeans – Target (US)
Flats – Target (US)

Grrrrrrr!

  4. Wow, this is super cute. I can't believe that you did the spots by hand, amazing talent! I'm so shaky I can't even put on eyeliner without using 1,000 Q-Tips, but I still am going to try this. It's that cute. :)

  5. Shaky hands would be perfect for this project! It would only make the spots more 'natural'. Go for it! :)

    1. Thanks! You know, I should have put the exact brand, because I used it all up and recycled the bottle that day. But from the looks of the bottle in the high res photos I have it's Tulip brand Soft Fabric Paint. But I'm sure any will do. Just test it first on the inside. Good luck and thanks for commenting! :)
